Hey another latest study for you to dive into! Comparing the Effects of Low-Fat, High-Protein and High-Fat, Standard-Protein Diets on Weight Loss and Blood Lipids:
Have you been trying to lose weight and improve your blood lipids lately? If so, you may be interested in the findings of a recent study that compared the effects of two different diets on weight loss, lipids, appetite regulation, and energy expenditure. The study found that carbohydrate-restricted diets high in either monounsaturated fat or protein were equally effective at promoting fat loss and improving blood lipids.
In the study, 57 overweight and obese volunteers with insulin concentrations above 12 mU/L were randomly assigned to either a low-fat, high-protein (LF-HP) diet or a high-fat, standard-protein (HF-SP) diet for 12 weeks of energy restriction and 4 weeks of energy balance. The LF-HP diet consisted of 29% fat and 34% protein, while the HF-SP diet consisted of 45% fat and 18% protein.
The results showed that both diet groups experienced significant weight loss, with the LF-HP group losing 9.7 kg and the HF-SP group losing 10.2 kg. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of fat loss or resting energy expenditure. However, the decrease in the thermic effect of feeding with weight loss was smaller in the LF-HP group compared to the HF-SP group. Additionally, both groups experienced improvements in glucose and insulin responses to test meals after weight loss, with no significant difference between the two diets.
Overall, the study found that both the LF-HP and HF-SP diets were effective at promoting weight loss and improving blood lipids, and neither diet had any detrimental effects on bone turnover or renal function.
